Challenging Wills in NZ

Here’s an interesting article that shows that in Aotearoa, from 2011 to 2015, 200-300 applications were filed each year in the Family Court and High Court disputing an estate. That’s 300 + families dealing with complex legalese while breaking down trust and connection, all while grieving the loss of a loved one. Messy!

We know it’s a really challenging time for anyone, and encourage you all to have your Estate and Will sorted out well in advance. When you’ve done so, do sit down with all your loved ones and explain your wishes and why. This will go a long way to alleviating concerns as you have the chance to explain your reasoning, and in turn, this lessens the likelihood of things being contested.
